LGBTQ Initiatives

The Center for Belonging and Social Change’s LGBTQ Initiatives supports and advocates for the unique academic and social needs of students who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, and any others with a marginalized sexual orientation, romantic orientation, and/or gender identity (LGBTQIA+) across Ohio State.

We nurture reflective thought and provide a welcoming and inclusive space for all members of campus to explore issues related to sexual and gender identity, learn more about LGBTQIA+ communities, and engage students in meaningful experiences that promote allyship and inclusion.

Note: These gatherings are not an appropriate forum to fulfill requirements for academic programs or classes (such as for projects, papers, or graduation requirements), student requirements (such as for First Year Success Series or STEP Professional Development Co-Curriculars), nor for Standards of Excellence requirements from Sorority and Fraternity Life. To find a program that could work for such requirements, check out our calendar for anything with a title followed by DICE.

Workshops

The Center for Belonging and Social Change offers workshops related to LGBTQ identities. Open sessions of the below workshops are scheduled throughout the year. For information on open sessions, check out our event calendar. All LGBTQ workshops are eligible for DICE program credit.

Workshops are also available to groups of ten or more by request during the academic year. To request a workshop, please complete the Workshop Request Form at least four weeks in advance of your requested workshop date. Please note that all workshop requests are dependent on staff availability.

LGBTQ 101 (1 hour)

  • Wednesday, September 6, 2023, 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. Registration is required.

  • Friday, October 20, 2023, 11 a.m. - noon. Registration is required.

Pronouns 101 (1 hour)

  • Friday, November 3, 2023, 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. Registration is required. 

Trans 101 (1.5 hours)

  • Monday, October 2, 2023, 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Registration is required. 

  • Monday, November 13, 2023, 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Registration is required. 

Creating LGBTQ-Inclusive Classrooms (2 hours)

Safe Zone (2.5 hours)

  • Friday, December 1, 2023, 2 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Registration is required.
